Mountain Biking in New
Jersey
According to the National Parks Service, "Pending federal aprovals of the trails for biking, are now closed to biking." (See the National Park Service's Delaware Water Gap web site for other biking routes in the park.)
Because of rampant vandalism to trail signs, the trail-marking scheme has been changed at to a 4-color system rather than the alphabetical plan described in the book. SMART (Save Mercer and Ride the Trails) offers an updated overall map of the park on the group's web site. Other information contained in the Mountain Biking in New Jersey map remains accurate.
Maintenance on the trail at seems to have been a hit-or-miss affair of late. It might be best to call first to make sure the trail is passable before you travel out that way.

Revisions to the :
Heading north from Verona (current starting point), reach the Pompton Ave. overpass. Go down stairs. Go left. At Myrtle Ave. traffic light (by the Exxon station) cross Pompton Ave. About 200' ahead on right turn onto Little Falls Rd. As the road makes a sharp curve to the left, look right for a footbridge that crosses the river ( you are now in Community Park). Follow yellow blazes to children's play area. Look right towards woods for a gravel dirt path and small footbridge. This is the connecting path to continue on the rail trail. Reach the rail trail and go left to continue.
Also ... the pathway around the Cedar Grove Reservoir is now closed and fenced off.
