This ride through the countryside of rural Sussex County combines a portion of the Sussex Branch Rail Trail with a loop through adjoining Kittatinny Valley State Park. The Sussex Branch is similar in some respects to the Paulinskill Valley Rail Trail, but it runs largely adjacent to or through state-owned parkland, while the Paulinskill borders private land for most of its length.
The landscape of Kittatinny is a microcosm of rural Sussex County, featuring dense forests, tranquil meadows, and rugged rock outcroppings. Kittatinny State Park was once a privately owned estate with its own airport, but the state acquired this land in 1994. ...
